Not sure the NFL has discovered how to play defense yet this year. More and more points are being scored each week and we had 2 different teams post scores over 140. That is extremely impressive when the average points per game scored by all teams in the league this year is just a hair over 80! On to the matchups.
The Pinkshirts vs. Jayhawk Nation – It looks as though due to Nebraska’s performance in Madison on Saturday the aforementioned Blackshirts will be known as the Pinkshirts. Nebraska fans take the loss of their teams particularly hard and find the need for self-humiliation because of the actions of their beloved cornhuskers. Anyway… The Pinkshirts came to play unlike the boys from NU and came away with a solid victory. The Pinkshirts held a 2 point lead going into the Sunday night game with only Ray Rice versus Plaxico Burres, Santonio Holmes and Dustin Keller. Jayhawk Nation had much faith this week in the Jets going against Baltimore. Unfortunately for him that faith was not rewarded and Rice easily outscored the three receiving options for Sanchez. The Pinkshirts made it hard on himself too leaving all 31 of Beanie’s points on the bench and also deciding against a dinged up Dez Bryant and his 15. Nation though could not get enough support around Forte’s huge day and lost his second of the year.
Rusty Trombone vs. A Pimp Named Slickback – still looking for his first win of the season, Rusty Trombone decided to leave nothing in doubt this week when he slapped Slickback twice across the mouth and dropped what high score of the year at that point. 141 points all together with 45 coming from Aaron Rodgers alone. Rodgers was sick and the rest of Rusty’s lineup followed suit dropping double digits all over the place. Slickback just got into triple digits, but that did not make a difference. Cam Newton’s 31 on the bench would not have made up the spread and even a good choice in defense could not help. Rusty played a near perfect lineup and let everyone know he is not out of the fight yet.
Who Got the Key to My Cage? vs. Hide Ya Kids Hide Ya Wife – Arian Foster and Frank Gore came back to life this week and played a huge role in getting Hide Ya back to .500 on the season. This was a relatively close matchup most of the way, but neither CJ or McFadden could get across the goal line to add quick 6’s for Cage? and only Bowe provided a TD from the six RB/WR/TE positions. Even playing Tony Romo would not have gotten Cage close enough to get a victory and Reggie Wayne iced the matchup on Monday night.
Blame it on the Henny vs. A Team Named Suh – So this is what the high score of the season looks like. Blame it on the Henny let loose a complete ass-whupping on Suh to the tune of 154. This game just got out of hand as every player on Henny’s team contributed big numbers and Baltimore’s Defense hung a final 29 on Sunday night. Suh’s team had no real answer as his defense and kicker turned in some of the highest performances for the week and by the time Monday night rolled around Blount would have needed 400 yards and 7 TDs to even scrape out a tie. Not sure if it is harder losing a 1 point matchup or not even getting a chance to compete, but Suh definitely fell into the latter this week.
Huge Hits vs. Rock Chalk – What a comeback. Huge Hits was probably left for dead with only Josh Freeman left on Monday night and 22 points behind. Of course Freeman has an amazing game and the Colts left too much time on the clock for the Bucs to keep running plays and unfortunately still allowing Freeman to run loose! Neither team played a perfect lineup leaving key points in this close matchup on the bench and Rock Chalk is still waiting for the stat correction to come through and get a point back. Rock Chalk has managed to outscore Huge Hits by a margin of 15 points a game so far, but the standings have Hits in 3rd and Rock Chalk in 8th.
Move of the Week: Huge Hits easily gets the award this week because of a great move that was served up by his opponent this week. Rock Chalk dropped Eric Decker for Nate Washington earlier in the week and Huge Hits took advantage and picked up and played Decker. Decker’s 17 points were instrumental in the 1 point victory this week and really only Rock Chalk has himself to blame.
Oops of the Week: When you lose a game by a point there is likely a better move you could have made so Rock Chalk wins the award this week. Not only did he serve up a key player to his opponent, and it would have been hard to sit Gronkowski but an Owen Daniels play would have changed the tides and got this team to .500
Team that Wish They Played Someone Else: A Pimp Named Slickback was one of 4 teams to score triple digits this week but unfortunately had to play against the 141 from Rusty. Better luck next week
Team Glad they Played Who They Did: Huge Hits got the luxury of not playing one of the 4 triple digit teams and could only beat 3 teams in total this week. Does not matter because he played one of them and came away with another victory. 9th in total points but 3rd in the standings means Hits is livin’ right so far.
